Honeymoon in Nice

Beach at Nice France

Popularized as a holiday resort by Queen Victoria ( long before the bikini, thankfully ) Nice, the largest Riviera city, has an illustrious past. Prized by both the Greeks, who introduced the olive trees, and the Romans, who planted the vines, it remained an Italian enclave until the French Revolution.

As such, the restaurants of picturesque Vieux ( old ) Nice serve excellent espresso and homemade gelato to accent the delicious nicois cuisine - the Lou Mourelec on Rue Biscarra is a member of the Cuisine Nisarde gastronomy group and well worth a visit.

The colourful flower market of the Cours Saleya doubles as a food market and showcases the entire spectrum of local produce: from pickled olives to pates, from fromage to framboise.
